Niche Marketing Uncovered Launches!

February 8th, 2008

I am pleased to announce that Niche Marketing Uncovered is finally ready!

This is an interesting story! Let me give you the background…

I wrote a blog post back in December called “Niche Discovery And Successful Niche Marketing”. You see, I have some serious reservations about how some marketers are promoting the concept of niche marketing…

I know from my own personal experience that niche marketing is a great way to build a profitable online business. But, I also feel that many new marketers approach it from the wrong perspective.

My blog post attracted some interesting comments. It dawned on me that writing a simple blog post was good but not good enough. I had to explain “how” to do niche marketing and not only “what” to do!

Based on this I made the following commitment, in my blog, on the 15th of December:

“I am going to write a step-by-step report on exactly how I go about discovering and researching a new niche. This will not be a theoretical approach – I shall select a niche that I am not currently active in and reveal everything I do.”

Now I have to be honest… I originally intended on only writing a short report of between 10 and 20 pages. I expected that this report would not take me longer than a week or two to write, bearing in mind that December was quite a hectic month with Astrid being pregnant, Christmas shopping, family obligations, etc.

It simply didn’t turn out that way for a couple of reasons…

I read a great report by Patrick Pretty, called “My Secret Identity” about ‘daring to be different’. I decided to do something I have never done before…

I decided to write an informative book and to spice it up a little by adding fictional characters and fictional circumstances. In short, I decided to combine fiction with non-fiction. (The characters mentioned in the book are purely fictional although the advice and information given about niche marketing is certainly non-fiction).

Furthermore, I decided to write a comprehensive report with many different examples and step-by-step guidelines.

I asked myself the following question:

“If someone (friend, relative or neighbor) would approach me for advice on how he or she can do online marketing from home, without any previous online marketing experience and with little or no money to invest, what practical and step-by-step advice would I give him or her?”

With the above in mind I set out writing Niche Marketing Uncovered. The end result? A detailed report of 96 pages totaling 27,860 words on how to build a real online business while working from the comfort of your own home!

Case Study Of How To Sell Your Online Marketing Skills To A Local Business

January 18th, 2008

Last week I wrote a blog post, called Selling Your Online Marketing Skills To Local Businesses.

I wrote the post after reading Andrew Cavanagh’s new report called “Offline Gold For Online Marketers – The Simple System For Selling Your Online Marketing Skills To Local Businesses”.

I was very impressed with Andrew’s report, so much so that I immediately contacted him and asked him if I could offer his report to my list members and blog readers. I had no doubt that his practical and step-by-step advice would work.

Would like to share something with you that happened this week…

As you may know, I am busy finalizing a new report I am working on about niche marketing. I decided that I would not focus on anything else this week. However, things don’t always turn out the way we plan…

I got a phone call from a friend of mine that has been trying for several months to get a website done for his offline business. He originally asked me a couple of months ago if I could help him but I politely declined, saying that I am not a website designer but an internet marketer.

After reading Andrew’s report I decided that it may not be a bad idea at all to sell some of my time and skills to local businesses. The thing that appealed to me most was not getting paid something like $1500 a day to build a website. No. I was really interested in the residual monthly income possibilities. It starts getting quite interesting when you have a portfolio of 100 websites!

Anyway, my friend was complaining that he still does not have a website and is getting really frustrated at the lack of interest some website designers have shown in getting his business.

I was about to say something like “Yeah right, it is terrible… blah blah blah…” while thinking I hope he is not going to ask me again to help him because I simply do not have the time right now and must finish my report, when I remembered Andrew’s report…

Instead of sympathizing with him and telling him I will phone him back sometime, I decided to help him. He has a business that sells individualized weight loss solutions in Cape Town. His main method of getting new patients is by advertising in local and regional newspapers and magazines. The problem is that his weight loss solution program really works but it is not cheap.

Many people will only see his advertisement once in the paper (one exposure to his message). Some will phone him for additional information (two exposures to his message). Fact of the matter is that many people do not like to phone for information and selling the program over the phone is not easy…

He really wanted a website that he could refer people to for additional information. His intention was to mention the website address in his newspaper advertisements. He could also refer people to his website when they phoned him…

He received many phone calls from people that were interested in his program but wanted to visit his website to get more information and to read some success stories.

Imagine their reaction at being told there is no website!

After thinking about it for a couple of minutes I realized just how easy it was to help my friend. He did not need a massive website full of content. He had no interest in search engine optimization. First of all, the weight loss niche is VERY competitive, and, secondly he is only really able and interested in helping people from Cape Town.

What I proposed was the following:

He needs to work on building a list or database of prospects. It is not easy to establish your credibility as an expert in the weight loss niche! Especially when people do not know you, do not know if they can trust you and you are selling an expensive weight loss solution.

I felt that he had to get his message across more than once (newspaper advertisement) or twice (when prospects phone for more information after reading his newspaper advertisement).

Although I was confident that even a simple website would be better than no website at all, I felt that he had to work on his credibility. He had to show goodwill and create an impression that he really wants to help people and are not only interested in their money.

I suggested that he not only provide people with additional information about his weight loss solutions but that he offers a free seven day email course to people where he shares useful weight loss tips for free that has nothing to do with his program.

At the end of each email he can remind people about his weight loss program and even list one or two additional benefits per email. Furthermore, he can encourage his list members to forward the email to any of their friends that they feel may benefit from reading it.

He can also compile a short but free report that new members can instantly download when they join his list. The possibilities are endless…

By working on building up a database of prospects and by providing these prospects with good and helpful information he does not only establish his credibility and goodwill… He also gets his message across at least nine times, instead of only once or twice!

Why am I sharing this story?

Many offline businesses feel that they do not need a website in order to sell their products or services. Furthermore, it is not always easy to give an offline business owner an estimate of how much traffic his website will generate and how many new sales he will conclude as a direct result of having a website.

When a business places an ad in a newspaper they are given a lot of information such as readership base, number of copies that are sold every day, etc. For example, “Our newspaper is read by more than 100,000 people every day”.

What do you tell the owner about putting up a website? You are going to get 100,000 visitors every day? No… So, why don’t you turn the situation around? For example, tell him that even if every single visitor to his website is an existing customer and even if his website does not generate one new customer it is still worthwhile investing in a website.

Why? Because he can and should be building a database full of BUYERS. He should work on strengthening his relationship with his customers. He should work on fostering customer loyalty. He customers should feel embarrassed at the thought of spending their money somewhere else, simply because he is giving them so much value.

Illustrate to him the advantages of sending one promotional email to a huge list or database of PROVEN BUYERS. Buyers that he has built up a relationship with. Buyers that trust him.

An autoresponder company such as Aweber will allow you to add unlimited mailing lists. Every single email can be personalized.

You see, an offline business can really benefit from a website, even if that website does not bring them any new customers.

The business owner can simply give every client a little card with his website address and promise them a free gift or free information when they sign up for his mailing list. He can even argue that his “members” get special discounts or hear about new promotions first before everyone else. He can say that he emails special coupons to his members, etc.

How can you help? Well, you can write the email messages. In fact, you don’t even need to write it yourself… You can preprogram a sequence of messages into Aweber that will provide your client’s customers with content (say one email per week) for a whole year. All you need to do is write and send the occasional broadcast message to his whole list whenever he runs a special promotion or wants to make an important announcement.

There are so many money making opportunities when you just take the time to think about it!

In case you are interested, Andrew has not yet increased the price of his report. You can still pick it up for under $20! Simply click on the following link: Internet Marketing From Home

That’s all for now. I have a report to finish! :)

How To Make $1000 to $2000 In 24 Hours Or Less REVIEW

January 11th, 2008

“Really Fast Money – How To Make $1000 – $2000 In 24 Hours or Less!” was launched by Willie Crawford as a WSO (Warrior Special Offer) back in June 2007.

Before I continue…
- I am not trying to sell or promote this report.
- I am going to give you a free download link.

Willie decided to write the report specifically to help people that need money for an “emergency”. There are many people that suddenly find themselves in a financial predicament and need to make some quick money…

The report is only 13 pages long. Willie decided to sell it for $5 and it turned out to be one of the most viewed WSO’s of all time. Just about everybody was talking about it on Warrior Forum and it got many great reviews.

I enjoyed reading the report but have never promoted it, for only one reason… I do not believe that most new marketers will be able to go ahead and earn $1000 – $2000 in 24 hours or less after reading the report. I think most new marketers require more time. That is my honest and personal opinion…

Why I am mentioning this report now after all this time?

Well, I got an interesting email from Willie yesterday. He basically explained that Paypal notified him that the report violated their “acceptable use policy”. Seems one or other affiliate got carried away promoting the report too aggressively.

Long story short, the report is no longer for sale. At least not in the same way it was sold previously.

Willie has decided to give all owners of the ebook Master Resale Rights. I am alloyed to resell the ebook for any price and may even give it away for free. (Obviously I may not resell it using Paypal)

As I said earlier on, I am going to give it to you for free…

Before I give you the download link, I think it is a good idea to consider the bigger picture for a moment. Companies like Paypal and Clickbank are slowly becoming quite strict on allowing items that seem, let’s say, too good to be true.

Some marketers are bitterly complaining about Paypal and Clickbank being unreasonable. Personally, I think it is a good thing that will only benefit the image of the industry in the long term. Some marketers really have a very bad habit of going too far… They promise you the sun, the moon and the stars but simply don’t deliver.

By the way, I am not referring to Willie Crawford. He is a great guy with a heart of gold! Willie has a proven track record and does not need to resort to excessive hype and lies in order to make money.

Just keep in mind that if you are currently making money promoting a certain product, that you should guard against coming across as an aggressive marketer, especially if the product has a title that may raise some eyebrows and suspicions.

Selling Your Online Marketing Skills To Local Businesses

January 8th, 2008

We are often so focused on making money online that we don’t even consider how we can apply our online marketing skills in helping local businesses.

A while ago I saw a very interesting thread on Warrior Forum posted by Andrew Cavanagh on just how easy it is to make $1,500 a day (starting today) by using your online marketing skills to help local businesses in your area.

Reading Andrew’s post I had several “aha” moments accompanied by slapping myself on the forehead a couple of times…

You see, I had several sales & marketing jobs in the corporate world before I eventually quit the corporate rat race in 2006 to become a full-time internet marketer and I know just how difficult it can be to establish your credibility in a faceless online community.

Many of the products I sold offline while working in the corporate world could also be purchased online. However, I always found that most of my customers appreciated and actually preferred face-to-face contact.

My regular visits, sincere interest in what they were doing and support really made a difference and helped me to establish very strong offline business relationships. In fact many of these business relationships turned into close personal friendships that still continue to this very day!

Now I know that many (if not most) online marketers will say that they don’t like face-to-face selling. I don’t either! Never have and never will! What I did in the corporate world was to focus on finding hungry buyers. Very often they actually found me…

We always had a saying that if you are dealing with a hungry market you eventually become an “order taker” and not a “salesperson”. I had many customers invite me to dinner and one customer even invited Astrid and I to a very expensive private game reserve for the weekend. (We have some really great game reserves in South Africa!)

Anyway, I am getting a bit carried away… Bottom line, it is much easier to establish your credibility and build strong business relationships offline than online.

In fact, I am convinced that most of the close relationships some gurus have with each other were not established online but offline during internet marketing seminars, conferences, etc. where they really got to know each other over a couple of drinks at the bar!

There is a huge and highly profitable market in helping local businesses! Most local business owners (and I am not talking about big corporations either) have a simple website (often not very effective), are thinking of getting a website or are at least not opposed to having an online presence. These guys often know NOTHING about online marketing and really need your help…

The post I mentioned earlier that Andrew Cavanagh made on Warrior Forum drew such a lot of attention and positive feedback that Andrew decided to compile a detailed step-by-step report of about 48 pages explaining how you can make $1,500 today with no money down.

I immediately contacted Andrew and asked him if I could offer my blog readers and list members the opportunity of getting this report. He agreed! The report is currently selling for an introductory price of $19.99 (as a WSO) but he indicated that the price will soon increase to $67.

How To Triple Your Opt Ins Without Additional Traffic And Without Spending A Dime

December 21st, 2007

Just read a special report this week by Jimmy D. Brown called “How to Triple Your Opt-In Requests From the Same Amount of Traffic… Without Spending A Penny!”

He starts the report with quite a bold statement: “Make One Small Change To Your Website And See Your Opt-In Requests Skyrocket!” Certainly got my attention!

Now I have to admit that there are many reports and ebooks on the market about list building. Some are good, some are not so good and others, well… terrible.

I would rate this report as “very good”. It is short (only 20 pages), contains to fluff, does not require any special skills and Jimmy’s strategy is very easy to implement.

Best of all, it is absolutely FREE.

You can download this report simply by clicking on the following link:

The Truth About Including Keywords In A Domain Name Or URL

December 20th, 2007

Should you include keywords or a key phrase in your domain name or url? Will including selected keywords or key phrases help you to rank better in the search engines for those terms or doesn’t it make any difference?

The above questions are typical questions that I often see asked on forums, blogs and discussion groups. The answers to these questions often go from the one extreme to the other extreme…

So what is the truth?

I would like to answer this question in two parts.

Part 1

Based on my experience, including your keywords (or keyword phrase) in a domain name or url can help your search engine rankings. However, it will not have a major impact on your search engine rankings.

Before I continue, let’s just get some terminology out of the way so we are all on the same page.

http://subdomain.example.com/subdirectory/

In the above example:
The “url” is http://subdomain.example.com/subdirectory/
The “domain name” is example.com

Note: Everything after the slash (/), e.g. after example.com/ is called the “path”.

For a more detailed explanation on terminology, refer to:
Matt Cutts – Seo Glossary

Let’s start with my own personal experience…

I have noticed in the past that whenever I use a domain name, that does not include highly competitive keywords or key phrases, that it is very easy to rank on the first page of Google, purely based on the domain name.

How do I know it is due to the domain name and nothing else?

That is easy to determine when the domain name appears nowhere else than in the url.

Based on this, I have no doubt in my mind that the domain name plays a role.

However, I am the first to admit that your domain name is not going to help you a lot if you are targeting highly competitive keywords.

For example, assuming you can get OnlineMarketing.com, you are not going to be on the first page of Google for the phrase “Online Marketing” (21 million results) purely based on your domain name!

According to Matt Cutts of Google:

“Having keywords from the post title in the url also can help search engines judge the quality of a page”

and

“Including the keyword in the url just gives another chance for that keyword to match the user’s query in some way”

Source: Matt Cutts Blog

We all know that Search Engine Optimization (SEO) can be a minefield. There are so many things that the search engines take into consideration when ranking sites…

Even if keywords in your domain name or url only play a very small part towards your site’s ranking in the search engines, surely it should not be overlooked. It is normally only by having multiple “small parts” that a site achieves a good ranking.

This brings me to Part 2, perhaps the most important reason why you should try to include your keywords or keyword phrase in your domain name…

Part 2

Google is very clear about the fact that one of the ways you can create a Google-friendly site is to “Make sure that other sites link to yours”

Source: Google Webmaster Help

What most SEO experts agree on is that anchor text plays a very important role.

For example: (Assume the keyword phrase of my site is “Online Marketing”)

If you link to my site the best type of link will look like this:
Online Marketing
It will show as Online Marketing (anchor text)

However, many sites will only link to you using your domain name. By including your keywords or keyword phrase in your domain name these links will be a lot more valuable than if your domain name is something like MySite.com

By the way, the above linking method (using anchor text) does not only apply to Site A linking to Site B. It also applies to internal links on your own site. If you link to your home page from another page don’t use “Home Page” as the link, use “Keyword” as the link.

Tip: If you are working on getting many different links I suggest you use a variation of your “keyword” as the anchor text. Google may very well see 1000 links to your site all using the anchor text “Keyword” as unnatural and discount those links or even penalize your site.

It is better to have several different anchor texts such as “Keyword 1”, “Keyword 2”, “Keyword Phrase1”, etc. (related to each other) than only one standard anchor text.

Lastly, as with most things in life, too much of a good thing may not be good. Do things in moderation. A keyword-rich domain name such as home-based-internet-marketing.com is good. It contains your keywords and is user friendly.

A domain name such as home-based-internet-marketing-online-from-home-make-money.com is taking things a bit too far and I certainly won’t visit a site with such a domain name.

Trust you found this post useful. Please feel free to leave your comments.

Daring To Be Creative

December 18th, 2007

I wrote a short blog post last week, called “Daring To be Different” and would like to share some additional thoughts on this matter, just from a different perspective.

In many ways, people don’t want to be “different”. We are social herd animals. We like to fit in. We like to conform to the norms of society. Those of us that do not conform are often alienated.

Most people like to play it safe by not attracting too much attention to themselves. They love the comfort of the herd. They try to avoid change. They dislike taking risks. They would much rather stick to “proven” recipes and techniques. People are often too lazy to think for themselves or are too afraid of asking the “wrong” questions.

Consider “being different” for a moment from another perspective… Replace the word “different” with “creative” or “innovative”.

In my post “Daring To Be Different” I spoke about people like Robert Kiyosaki, Donald Trump, Rick Jerk, Patrick Pretty and Richard Branson. People that do things differently in order to stand out from the crowd.

What I have noticed a lot in internet marketing is that people like to be told what to do. They want a proven recipe and they want it handed to them on a silver platter. Now there is nothing wrong with this, if you use it as a base on which to build your own business.

There is no need to reinvent the wheel in the information age. Learn from the mistakes of others. Learn from the victories of others. BUT, whatever you do, make it your own! Take ownership, experiment, improve, and expand on successful strategies. Become an expert in your own right but strive towards continuous improvement. You never stop learning in internet marketing!

Most so-called gurus spend thousands of dollars every month buying new ebooks, videos, etc. from unknown marketers just in case they may pick up a small little gold nugget someone else has discovered that they can apply in their own business.

They don’t buy a step-by-step book of “10 Steps to whatever…” and then start at Step 1 and finish at Step 10. No, chances are they already know the steps from A to Z and Z to A but something small (and seemingly insignificant) may just give them a great idea.

I am not saying you have to spend thousands of dollars every month if you want to succeed. No, what I am saying is you should apply what you already know and only work on improving it.

Let’s look at an example…

We all know that many marketers love, adore and cherish article marketing. Yes, I am exaggerating a bit (just having fun). Let’s assume you are an expert in article marketing. Nobody can teach you a thing. Great! Does that mean you have reached the end of the road, passed the finish line and are ready to collect the trophy? No, sorry… Actually it is only just the beginning.

What a really successful marketer will do is say “Ok, I am really good at article marketing. How can I improve?” He may experiment and conclude that links to and from his articles and Squidoo lens can help his rankings. He may discover that linking from certain sites to his articles are actually more valuable than the backlinks he is currently receiving from his articles, etc.

This is what I mean by continuous improvement and being creative.

Information overload only becomes a problem when you are trying to do everything at the same time with the result that nothing actually gets done. You will view the same information in a completely different light if you only use it to strengthen your existing business.

The idea is not to copy marketers but to learn from other marketers, and to apply that knowledge in your own business.

By referring to people like Rich Jerk and Patrick Pretty I am not saying you should copy them. What I am saying is that they are obviously doing something right.

I don’t know about you but I don’t want to be the next Rich Jerk. Many have tried to copy him and have ended up with egg all over them – I always have a good laugh when I get one of his emails starting with “Dear Loser” but if you send me such an email I shall very quickly unsubscribe from your mailing list!

There are many ways to be creative…

Storytelling – Some of the best books I have read (and remembered) were all about storytelling, for example:

“The Goal” by Eliyahu M. Goldratt,
“Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki,
“Maverick!” and “The Seven-Day Weekend” by Ricardo Semler

Inventing new words or new meanings for existing words, for example:

“Pluck” by Patrick Pretty,
“Attention Age” by Rich Schefren

In his new book, “The Attention Age Doctrine Volume Two: Web Marketing 2.0” Rich Schefren mentions there are 27,000 pages in Google with the exact phrase “attention age” and that 95% of those pages refer to him or his company. (I actually get 52,000 results when I search for “attention age” in Google!)

There is no need to go overboard in trying to be different. Rich Schefren has made millions of dollars doing things a bit differently. He knows how to differentiate himself from other marketers and how to stand out in a crowd.

In my own marketing, I always strive to do things a little bit differently than others – and my more unique approach can make quite a difference

Source: Rich Schefren’s “The Attention Age Doctrine Volume Two: Web Marketing 2.0” (Page 76).

One last thing, by being different I am not suggesting you should aim to win the first prize for Mr. or Ms. Popularity. Internet marketing is not a popularity contest. Many top marketers like John Reese, Rich Schefren, and Mike Filsaime get severely criticized for just about everything they do.

What is important is to use your creativity to carve your own identity in internet marketing. And, in the words of Donald Trump there is “No Such Thing As Over-Exposure”.

Daring To Be Different

December 14th, 2007

What has Robert T. Kiyosaki, Donald Trump, Richard Branson, Rich Jerk and Patrick Pretty have in common? In one word – BRANDING!

Robert T. Kiyosaki has just about made “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” a household name all over the world. Do you think he would have achieved the same level of success, was it not for his innovative branding and storytelling skills? I don’t think so.

Donald Trump is probably one of the best known real estate tycoons in the world. Once again, just about everybody has heard of Donald Trump. Is he the best? Wealthiest? No, but he knows how to brand himself using the TRUMP name!

Richard Branson is known for the VIRGIN brand – Virgin Cola, Virgin Active, Virgin Airlines, etc.

This brings me closer to more familiar territory, internet marketing!

Who has not heard of RICH JERK? He has been a bit quiet lately, but I am not aware of any other internet marketer that has managed to stir up so much controversy as Kelly Felix with his RICH JERK brand… Love him or hate him, this guy knows how to brand himself!

Fact of the matter is that internet marketing is a competitive field and it is becoming more and more difficult to stand out from the crowd. There are many good marketers that I have never heard of simply because they have not done enough to differentiate themselves.

How difficult is it to create a brand? How long does it take before you can stand out from the crowd?

Well, this brings me to Patrick Pretty…

It is possible you have never heard of Patrick Pretty, yet! However, what is important is that several well-known internet marketing gurus have taken notice of him… Why? Because he dared to be different.

Perhaps the most fascinating part of the Patrick Pretty story is how quickly he managed to create a unique brand that made himself stand out almost overnight.

The PATRICK PRETTY brand was created by Patrick Hernan in April 2007. That is only 8 months ago. Within a very short period of time he has already managed to leave some deep footprints…

Note: Some of you may say, Patrick Pretty is not a real person, he is the product of someone’s imagination. If you are thinking this, you are obviously right. However, you are missing the point and not seeing the bigger picture. He did something to make himself stand out from the crowd by daring to be different. And, you know what? It worked!

I recently had the opportunity of reviewing Patrick’s latest book (officially released this week), called:

“My Secret Identity – How Daring To Be Different Can Put You On The Internet Marketing Map And Position You For Online Success”

It is an excellent read and I highly recommend it!

I previously mentioned that, by being different, Patrick Pretty has already caught the attention of several internet marketing gurus. Not an easy accomplishment if you remain hidden in the internet marketing crowd…

This is an extract of an email message Willie Crawford sent his list this week:

Yesterday, I read an ebook by Patrick Pretty called, “My Secret Identity: How Daring To Be Different Can Put You On The Internet Marketing Map and Position You For Online Success.”

Patrick is a MASTER at branding and explaining, in easy to understand language, how to stand out in the Internet Marketing Niche. If you just blend in, and are a “me to” marketer, you won’t make it in IM.

That makes Patrick’s ebook essential reading for any serious Internet marketer. Costing less than you’ll probably spend on lunch today, Patrick’s ebook is a no-brainer.

Patric also taught me that you don’t need to use a lot of hype to sell. A good product speaks for itself…

I could not have said it any better…
